
The final of the 1st interschool Greek language competition, "Word Games", was successfully held on Saturday, 11 March at Kessaris School.
Twenty students ,coming from different schools around Athens, competed before a jury and the public. Having answered questions relevant to the Greek Language, qualified for the final round and 3 winners finally emerged.
Specifically, Ioannis Buritis (Avgoulea - Linardatou Schools) won the 1st place, Morfi Evdokia (Kessaris School) won the 2nd and Eleni Koutroumanou (Anavryton Model High School) won the 3rd one.
The competition, which is officially approved by the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Athens, Ministry of Education and Culture, aims to bring students into contact with the Greek language in a pleasant and playful way. Inspired by International competitions held around the world , "Word Games" makes the difference since its’ interest is not limited to the spelling of words.
The competition made all the participants gain substantial experience, mental toughness and intrinsic motivation.
We warmly thank the members of the jury consisted of Mrs. Nicoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidis, associate professor of Linguistics and Greek Language at the University of Ioannina, associate of Linguistics at the Center for Greek Studies of Harvard University, member of the Interdisciplinary Advisory Committee of the Center at Nafplion and Scientific Director of the International Summer University, author and editor of many books.
We also thank Mr. Stefanos Dandolos, distinguished writer and journalist, honored with the Botsi Prize for his entire prose work and finally Mrs. Ourania Sinopoulou, philologist and Ph.D. in Linguistics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
